Gosho doll
In the Edo period, Daimyo(Japanese feudal load) in various domains presented local specialties to Gosho(the imperial palace) in Kyoto when they pass through Kyoto on their way to Edo as Sankin-Koutai(one of administrative system in Japanese feudal period, especially in the Edo period). Then, as return gifts, emperor at that time gave them curvy dolls. That is how the origin of the name of Gosho doll was derived. |
